I earned my Master's and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Educational Psychology, with a focus in School Psychology. Before founding Best Education LLC, I worked at the university, school, and intermediate service agency levels as a school psychologist, trainer, and researcher. I also spent time working in the non-profit sector. Most recently, I was a Bureau Chief for Learner Strategies and Supports at the Iowa Department of Education. I am the author of several journal articles, book chapters, and co-author of the book Effective Universal Instruction: An Action-Oriented Approach to Improving Tier 1.
My areas of expertise include equity in opportunity to learn, curriculum alignment, multi-tiered systems of support, implementation science, standards-based practices, and school improvement.
I love spending time with my wife, twin daughters, and dog having family fun. I also enjoy designing and doing home improvement projects.
I have had the honor of working with countless teachers, administrators, content experts, and researchers in my 20+ years in education. The common thread through all of this work is a pursuit of effective policies, practices, and tools to increase equity in opportunity to learn for all students.
With students still reeling from the detrimental impact of the global COVID-19 pandemic, and the civic unrest that has escalated in our country, it is more critical now than ever that all students have equitable opportunities to learn knowledge and skills that will equip them to be positive, contributing members in their communities.
Best Education represents the culmination of my experiences, an opportunity to help others take what I have learned and to turn it into action. To do what every educator I have met is trying to do, which is to do the very best job they can do, so that the students they serve can do their very best.
